After months of preparation, three teams of Marcellus students competed at the Midstate Science Olympiad competition on Saturday, March 5th at North Syracuse Jr HS. There were 23 teams competing. Our students performed amazingly.
Our first team (15 students grades 7 -9) competed for individual medals and contributed to a team score. They must compete in all 25 events for a team score. They earned medals in 21/25 of the events, placed 4th overall, and qualified for the State Competition that will be held April 8,9 at ESM.
Our other two teams are made up of mostly 6th graders, but also includes students from grades 7-9 as well. These students compete for individual medals in their events, but don't worry about competing in all the events. It gives inexperienced students the opportunity to concentrate on 1 or 2 events (instead of 3 or 4). These students did very well, and received medals in 9 events!
